Looking to put some adventure in to your Waikato holiday? Waikato offers a variety of adrenalin pumping activities to wake you up and get you out there: Black Water Rafting Probably Waikato's most notorious adventure activity, Black Water Rafting is a 'must do' for all thrill seekers. Adventure seekers float through glowworm bespeckled underwater caverns in car tyre inner tubes, walk through native bush, jump off overhangs into the water again and take off down whirling waterways for an unforgettable "kiwi" experience. A number of professional rafting adventure companies operate out of the Waitomo Caves. Caving/Abseiling/Rock climbing Black Water Rafting adventures can be combined with abseiling, rock climbing, flying fox, underground trekking and caving, or these activities can be the focus of your adventure, with experienced guides to direct you through the labyrinth which is Waitomo Caves. Look for more information on the Lost World Cave, St. Benedict's Caverns and more. Hot Air Ballooning Some might not consider Hot Air Ballooning an adventure attraction, but when you're floating hundreds of metres above Waikato's lush green pastures or trying to make a landing through trees, the experience can be a rush. Most companies offer champagne style breakfasts or brunches to top off this memorable activity. Jet Boating Lake Karapiro offers a jet boating trip which takes you to the base of the Karapiro Dam, hurtling along stretches of the Wakato River and through a series of dizzying 360 degree turns. Check out the Cambridge i-site for more information on Cambridge, the lake and jet boating opportunities. Surfing A surfer's paradise, Raglan is well known for its majestic west coast waves and long, clean breaks. Particularly renowned is Manu Bay (Waireke), famous for its left-hand break. An international surfing competition is held at Manu Bay every summer. Mountain Biking and Forest Adventure A number of companies run bush adventures combined with accommodation out of the scenic native bush around Waikato. Many feature abseiling, caving, claybird shooting, treks and mountain biking to name just few activities. At the end of the day you've got somewhere cosy and warm to collapse back to! Check your local visitor information centre for more details.
