Kawhia The rural retreat of Kawhia rests by an immense harbour where the state highway meets the seaside. An important spiritual home for Maori, Kawhia is close to Ngaruawahia. From Kawhia you head out to Ocean Beach, offering dramatic waves and scenery and the opportunity for visitors to dig their own hot pools at Te Puia Springs. The area is popular for surfcasting, gamefishing, 4WD on the beach, chartering boats, kayaking and adventure tours.
